A Week in a Glance: September 25 - September 29

Happy Friday, RTA Raven families,

A huge thank you to all the families who were able to attend the Meet the Teacher Night! We always enjoy the opportunity to match students with parents. It was such a lovely evening, following an equally amazing September start up. Another ginormous thank you to the RTA School Council (and Ms. Baker and her children) for bringing in pizza for the staff. It was greatly appreciated.

Provincial Achievement Tests (PATS):

·       In May and June of this school year, Grade 6 and 9 students throughout the province will write Provincial Achievement Tests in language arts, mathematics, science and social studies.

·       Results from these tests will provide Alberta Education, school administrators, teachers, parents/guardians, students and the public with information about what students know and can do in relation to provincial standards at the end of Grade 6 and 9.

·       Provincial Achievement Tests are based on what students have been learning throughout the school year, so they will be marked by teachers before they are returned to Alberta Education in June.

·       School staff share preliminary results with parents after the PAT administration.

·       Individual Student Profiles (ISPs) are available to schools in the fall of the following school year.  School staff then share the ISPs with parents or parents can access results directly using myPass.  A record of the ISP will be retained electronically in the student record.  This profile is prepared by Alberta Education after the marking and scoring of tests has been completed and the final scores are calculated; it will present your child’s performance on each test in relation to provincial standards.

·       Reports that show how well our school’s students did as a group in relation to provincial standards will be available at our school and on our school’s website in the fall.

Attendance:

·       When a student arrives to school - after the morning or the afternoon attendance bell - they need to check in at the office (even if they take the bus).

·       Students who are not in the classroom for attendance will be marked absent. Once they check in, at the office, this will be changed to late.

·       Attendance is a complex process. We try our best to do it in a timely manner, but when there are numerous lates or absences it can take some time to adjust the attendance records.

·       Moreover, please note that schools are required to submit attendance notifications daily, at two designated times.

CBE Transportation:

·       Please know that the CBE Transportation team is doing the utmost to support schools, and I thank you for your continued patience and understanding. The CBE Transportation team organizes and creates the Yellow School Bus routes, with great thought and consideration, and individual schools are not involved in the process.

·       Despite best efforts, there can be unforeseeable delays in busing. Questions or concerns regarding transportation can be emailed directly to CBE Transportation at transportation@cbe.ab.ca

·       We strongly recommend all families whose children access the yellow school bus to download and register for the MyBusStop app. The app will give you the most up to date information regarding delays to any routes. The app will ask for your child's 'School Code' - the code can be found on the busing page for your student, in your MyCBE parent account.

·       Please see the CBE Busing and Transportation page for more information:
