Grade 5 & 6 Mandatory Music:
All Grade 5 and 6 students participate in Music every day for one semester as part of their regular program. The course focuses on developing musical literacy by teaching students how to read notes, rhythms, and other foundational music concepts, then applying those skills through hands-on performance. Throughout the semester, students explore a variety of instruments, including marimbas, recorders, Boomwhackers, ukuleles, and handbells. Through individual and group activities, they build confidence, creativity, listening skills, and collaboration while developing a strong foundation for future music studies.
Grades 7-9 Optional Band:
Students in Grades 7 to 9 have the opportunity to choose Band as an option in place of CTF modules. The program focuses on developing musicianship, instrumental technique, and ensemble performance skills while fostering teamwork, discipline, and creativity. In recent years, RTA Band students have showcased their talents by performing at the Alberta International Band Festival, as well as at the school's Winter and Spring Concerts, giving them valuable experience performing for both adjudicators and live audiences.
