RTA: Terry Fox Day

“I want to set an example that will never be forgotten.” – Terry Fox

Terry Fox has inspired Canadians since the 1980s with his Marathon of Hope to raise money for cancer research. He is considered a Canadian hero, admired for his courage, determination, perseverance, and leadership.

This year, students at RTA are focusing on Terry’s qualities and how we, too, can set an example that will never be forgotten. Together, we will explore traits such as perseverance—the ability to keep going when things are tough—along with courage, resilience, and leadership.

During his Marathon of Hope, Terry ran 5 373 km, ending his journey in Thunder Bay, Ontario. On Monday, September 22, 2025, the RTA Ravens are challenged to collectively match this distance. Throughout the week, during lunch hours, staff and students are encouraged to keep running and see if we can go even further—covering the entire 7 821 km length of the Trans-Canada Highway together.

As we take part in this challenge, we honour Terry’s dream of finding a cure for cancer while also reflecting on how his example can inspire our own actions at school, at home, and in our community. Together, we can make a difference—just as Terry showed that one person’s determination can inspire a nation.

Let’s rise to the challenge, RTA Ravens, and keep Terry’s legacy alive.
