PE Participation & Communication

If a student is sick or injured and is unable to fully participate in PE, families are asked to provide the PE teacher with a note or email before 9:00 a.m. This allows the PE team time to review the information before classes begin.

When possible, please include:

  • Reason the student is unable to participate
  • Expected duration of the limitation
  • Participation guidelines — what the student can and cannot do during PE (e.g., partial participation or activities to avoid)
  • Physiotherapy exercises the student has been asked to complete. When appropriate, PE teachers are happy to support students in completing their exercises during PE time.

This information helps ensure the PE teacher is aware that a student has permission to modify or miss participation and allows us to provide appropriate activities and support.

If an illness or injury develops during the school day and a student is unable to participate in PE, the PE team will communicate this to families using the RTA Parent Communication Form.
