Happy Friday, RTA Ravens, 

It was an amazing first full week of school: with the beautiful weather, learning took place both inside and outside the building; athletics were in full spring, with tryouts in basketball and soccer, as well as RTA students dominating their first country meet; and finally, students completing a very successful whole school practice fire drill.  

RTA Terry Fox Fundraiser| Thursday, September 21, 2023: 

• RTA is currently accepting donations for the Terry Fox Fundraiser. 
• Donations can be made to https://schools.terryfox.ca/RTAlderman or given to the Homeroom Teacher.
• RTA has reached $500 of our $2000 goal - Thank you RTA community!

RTA Sr. Girls’ Basketball Coach needed:

• For the first time in a few years, RTA is excited to be able to offer a Sr. Girls’ Basketball team! 
• Ms. Lewis alongside Shaw want nothing more than to provide this experience for our students; but we really need a volunteer coach this could be a parent or a high school student), who knows basketball, to help us out.  
• Games are mostly on Tuesdays, with some Thursdays. Practices are Thursdays PM (but I can be a bit flexible with practices). 
• Please email me (Ms. Lewis) at bclewis@cbe.ab.ca if you are interested in helping out. Truthfully, I’d be happy to have a couple of helpers. 

Meet the Teacher | Thursday, September 21, 2023: 

• We are so excited for the Meet the Teacher evening on Thursday at 6:00 – 8:00 PM at RT Alderman School. 
• Meet the Teacher is an opportunity to put a face to a name, to explore the learning environment and to understand the various classroom supports and modes of communication. 
• Please understand that this is NOT an opportunity to have one-on-one conversations regarding your child. 
• HR Teachers will send an email out to families prior to the evening, sharing more information regarding the specific framework. 

Fall Equinox | Saturday, September 23, 2023:

• The fall equinox, September 23, marks the first day of autumn.
• On this day, na'toosi (Grandfather Sun in Blackfoot) and kokomikisomm (Grandmother Moon) share the sky; there is balance between day and night. The equinox brings a season of change. When we look to our non-human relations, they tell us it is a time to turn inward, to let things go that no longer serve us, and to prepare for a time of greater darkness and scarcity. - Indigenous Education, 2022.
