Good afternoon, Raven families,

Wishing all our families a wonderful weekend enjoying the snow! It’s hard to believe it was +18°C just yesterday! Only in Calgary can we experience such a dramatic change in weather. Stay warm and enjoy the pre-winter wonderland!

A huge congratulations to our Boys’ and Girls’ Soccer teams on wrapping up their seasons! Our boys finished in 3rd place, and our girls earned 2nd place!  We are incredibly proud of how both teams competed, persevered through challenges, and represented RTA with determination, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The players worked hard, supported one another, and gave us plenty to celebrate throughout the season. Well done, Ravens! – Ms. Leung

Science Program Field Trips – Parent Volunteers Needed:

  • As part of the Science Alternative Program, RTA students enjoy 10 exciting field trips each year, and these experiences would not be possible without our amazing parent volunteers.
  • Last-minute volunteer cancellations this year have required our Resource Team to leave their important work in the school to provide supervision, which is not sustainable.
  • Unfortunately, there may be times in the future when trips will need to be cancelled if we do not have enough volunteers to ensure appropriate supervision and student safety.
  • We are looking for All-Star Parent Volunteers! If you are willing to step in at the last minute to support a field trip, regardless of grade level, please let Ms. Moses know asap, and we will add you to our All-Star Parent Volunteer list. 😊
  • Thank you for helping us keep these incredible learning experiences going!

Girls Excel in Math (GEM):

·       Calling all grades 6-8 girls who are interested in math! Girls Excel in Math (GEM) Calgary is a free Saturday enrichment program for any grades 6 - 8 students who identify as girls and want to have fun exploring some interesting mathematical topics they wouldn't normally see in the classroom! Students will begin in a large lecture hall with a session led by Lauren DeDieu and then split into a smaller classroom with other students from RTA and Ms. Shuffler.

·       GEM will take place at the University of Calgary from 9am – 12pm on the following dates:

    • Saturday, Nov. 7th, 2026: Prisoner’s Dilemma
    • Saturday, Dec. 5th, 2026: Fractals
    • Saturday, Jan. 23rd, 2027: Origami
    • Saturday, Mar. 13th, 2027: Eulerian Graphs

·       Please email Ms. Shuffler at mashuffler@cbe.ab.ca or come to Room 18 if you are interested in participating or have any questions! Sign-up required by November 2.

Halloween at RTA | Friday, October 30:

  • Students are encouraged to wear their best Halloween costumes on Friday, October 30 – the science-ier, the better!
  • Costumes should not interfere with learning, as students must still be able to participate comfortably and safely in PE and the STEM Challenge.
  • Please keep the following items at home: masks, gory costume accessories, candy, chips or other treats for classroom sharing, and hand-held props (including items such as lightsabers).
  • This is also a wonderful opportunity to have a conversation with your child about cultural appropriation and choosing costumes that are respectful of others.

Remembrance Day Assemblies | Tuesday, November 10:

  • With over 700 students at RTA, we will be holding two separate Remembrance Day assemblies to ensure all students can participate.
  • Students who are members of cadets, Scouts, or Girl Guides are encouraged to wear their uniforms for the occasion.
  • As a sign of respect, students will be asked to remove their caps, hats, and toques during the assemblies.

Yearbook Designs Wanted | November 30:

·       Submissions should feature original artwork on an 8.5 x 11 page. We are looking for covers that connect with our school, such as including our school’s name, colours, ravens, or science.

·       Please write your name and homeroom on the back of your submission and bring it to Ms. Shuffler or Ms. Beatty by November 30.
