A Week in a Glance | November 13 - November 17

Happy Saturday, Raven Families,

I hope that you are all enjoying the Fall Break and the atypical beautiful November weather. A huge thank you to Ms. Gray, the MC’s, the readers, the grade 6 hand bell players and the senior RTA Band for two amazing and heartfelt Remembrance Day assemblies.

New Fall Break:

  • In support of student and staff well-being, the instructional calendar this year includes a short fall break with more consecutive days off than previously provided in the traditional calendar. The number of instructional hours in the school year remains unchanged. Two non-instructional days combined with a day in lieu for Remembrance Day allow for this break. This decision responds to what was heard through an engagement process related to transitioning to one calendar this fall. For 2023-24, this break will happen Nov. 9 – 14.

RT Alderman Band Winter Fundraiser:

  • The Grades 7-9 band is running a fundraiser through Growing Smiles.
  • We are selling poinsettias, wreaths and various Christmas plant decorations.
  • Orders will be delivered Dec. 7 to the school and available for pick up after school Dec. 7 and during the day Dec. 8.
  • The deadline to order is Thursday, Nov. 23.
  • The funds raise will help to subsidize costs for overnight band camps  and musical experiences.

Understanding Vaping | Child & Youth Well-Being Series:

  • Across Canada, e-cigarette use, also known as vaping, is reaching new heights amongst teenagers. This presentation will focus on common devices used for vaping, substances vaped such as nicotine and cannabis, and the health risks associated with vaping. We will present on how to engage in challenging conversations with your young person regarding vaping.
  • This session is hosted in partnership with experts from Alberta Health Services and is offered free of charge for staff, families and caregivers and will benefit anyone interested in learning more.

School Based Fees:

  • School based fees, including field trip fees, have been added to MyCBE accounts; please log in to pay these fees. As field trip and in-school workshops are now listed separately in your child's MyCBE account, please remember to check back throughout the year to pay fees as they are added.

Field Trip/In-School Workshop Fees:

  • Each grade level will participate in a variety of field experiences and in-school workshops throughout the school year. Associated costs for these experiences will be added individually to student accounts as quickly as possible, usually prior to the event.

Athletics Fees:

  • If your child has participated in an athletics team this year, there may be associated fees. These fees cover the cost of equipment and apparel, referee fees, tournament fees etc. The continuation of the athletics teams at RTA depends on the prompt payment of these fees to cover related costs. Please check your child's fee page to view any outstanding fees.

Optional Field Trip Fees:

  • Some grade levels have the opportunity to attend an optional overnight field trip during the school year (ie Gr 9 BGI Kananaskis). These fees are usually applied to student fee accounts in advance of the field trip, and need to be paid in full prior to the event, unless you are negotiating a waiver with the third-party vendor (ie ECO School, Outdoor School). Where the fee cannot be uploaded before a field experience occurs, we ask that families check their MyCBE account regularly to ensure prompt payment of these fees after the event.

Noon Hour Activity Fee:

  • This fee covers the cost of emergency lunches, cutlery for student lunches, first aid supplies, items for Noon Hour Clubs, books and games for Blue Days etc. This fee is mandatory for all students; for grade 5/6 students the fee is paid as part of the Lunch Supervision Fee, for grade 7-9 students, the fee is applied to the child's fee account.
