A Week in a Glance: August 28 - September 2

Happy Friday, RTA Ravens,

It is hard to believe that it is already that time of the year: Back to school day or aka the BEST day – ever! As we live in the amazingly unpredictable city of Calgary, please remind your children to dress for the weather. Rain, snow, or sun, we want our students to be able to enjoy the beautiful outside.

Changes to Volunteer Clearance Process for 2023-24:

  • CPS now has a new vendor performing ePIC volunteer clearances, which has resulted in some changes to the process, and includes a fee of $21.25; clearances will remain valid for five years.
  • Please complete the Annual Volunteer Clearance Form, found on the CBE Volunteer page (see link below) and submit to the school at rtalderman@cbe.ab.ca.
  • Please ensure you also submit a piece of Government issued photo ID with your form (driver's licence, passport etc).
  • Office staff will raise a form letter and email it to you, along with instructions for submitting an application for a police clearance online.
  • Once you receive your clearance from CPS, you will need to share your clearance with the school in person or via email within 60 days; clearances not cleared at the school within 60 days of being issued will lapse and the volunteer will need to resubmit and incur an additional fee.

School Supplies:

Busing and Parking | Safety for Everyone:

  • Parking: As the majority of our students are bused to school, please help us create a safe and secure school by ensuring that you are parking in a designated area: along Acadia Drive SE in the assigned parking drop off area or across the road. Families may not park in the staff parking lot, nor may they park or drop off children on the school side.
  • Bus Letter: All busing information, including the school My School Bus Monitor code, is located within your child’s Powerschool Account. Please make sure that your child knows which bus that they are assigned by Southland Transportation. Please contact Southland Transportation if you have any questions or busing concerns.

Lunchroom at RTA: 

  • Allergies: As many of our students have dangerous food allergies, we kindly ask that families pack nut-free lunches.

Grade 5 and Grade 6 Students: 

  • First half of Lunch: 
    • Students play outside
  • Second half of Lunch: 
    • Students eat lunch inside their HR classrooms 
    • Cellphones and gaming devices are not permitted in the lunchroom
    • During lunch, students may talk to each other and play board games
  • Lunch Clubs will commence mid-October

Grade 7-9 Students: 

  • First half of Lunch:
    • Students eat lunch inside the classroom
    • On their designated off-campus day, students may go ‘off campus’ to purchase a lunch (please note, due to numbers, we cannot have more than a single grade off campus at a time).
  • OFF CAMPUS Schedule (EXCEPT for the first week of school): 
    • Mondays – Special Rotation 
    • Tuesdays – Grade 9 
    • Wednesday – Grade 8 
    • Thursday – Grade 7 (EXCEPT for the first week of school)
  • Second half of Lunch:
    • Students play outside during the second half of lunch

Monday: 

  • RTA Main Office hours 9:00 – 3:30 PM 
  • RTA Teacher Planning Day 
  • NO SCHOOL for students 

Tuesday: 

  • RTA Main Office hours 9:00 – 3:30 PM 
  • RTA Teacher Planning Day 
  • NO SCHOOL for students 
  • First Day of School Information: In the afternoon, HR Teachers will email families regarding HR Classes. A School Messenger will be sent to Raven families providing the following information:
    • Teacher name; classroom number; homeroom class and muster point on the first day of school 
    • Please contact the office at rtalderman@cbe.ab.ca if you have not heard from a teacher by Wednesday morning). 
    • Please note that we cannot accommodate classroom changes this year, as classes are currently at their maximum size capacity.

Wednesday: 

  • RTA Main Office hours 9:00 – 3:30 PM 
  • RTA Teacher Planning Day 
  • NO SCHOOL for students 

Thursday: 

  • First Day of School for ALL students 
  • Special Rotation (Homeroom and Grade Teams)
  • Special Off Campus Day for Grade 9 students 
  • Grade 7-9 students can sign up for Band

Friday: 

  • Rotation: 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A  
  • Last day for Grade 7-9 students to sign up for Band

Upcoming Events: 

  • Tuesday, September 5, 2023: Grade 7-9 Band and CTF will start
  • Wednesday, September 6, 2023: RTA School Council and Parent Association Meeting at 6:30 PM via TEAMS meeting  
  • Thursday, September 14, 2023: First Practice Fire Drill
  • Saturday, September 16, 2023: Online Spirit Wear Store closes
  • Friday, September 29, 2023: Truth and Reconciliation Day at RTA  
  • Wednesday, October 11, 2023: Picture Day
