Good evening, Raven Families,

As we approach this weekend, please take some time to relax, recharge and reflect upon how we can further build community and understanding.

National Day for Truth & Reconciliation | Orange Shirt Day

“I am honored to be able to tell my story so that others may benefit and understand, and maybe other survivors will feel comfortable enough to share their stories.”

(Phyllis Webstad)

·       September 30, 2021 marked the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day that coincides with Orange Shirt Day. This day recognizes the tragic legacy of residential schools, the missing children, the families left behind, and the survivors of these institutions.

·       Orange Shirt Day began in 2013 when residential school survivor Phyllis Webstad shared how her orange shirt was taken away on her first day at residential school.

·       Webstad’s story provides an opportunity for CBE students and staff to reflect on the history, legacy, and implications of the residential schools era.

·       On this day, we encourage CBE staff to also celebrate the stories of survival and resilience of Indigenous communities, and to share ways that we can work together toward truth and reconciliation.

Foods’ Room Donation:

·       We are reaching out to our amazing community for support. To ensure that our students have the best hands-on learning experiences, we are in need of some specific kitchen equipment donations.

·       If you are able to contribute, we are currently seeking donations of the following items:

    • 8x8 baking pans
    • 9x3 baking pans
    • Hand mixers
    • Meat thermometers

·       Donations may be dropped off at the main office. Your generosity will go a long way in helping us continue to provide valuable cooking and baking experiences for our students.

Terry Fox Run:

·       Hello R.T. Alderman Families! All students will run the Terry Fox run on Friday, October 4th. Our goal was to raise $2,500 to continue Terry's legacy and help battle cancer! Currently, we are almost double that amount! Go Ravens go!

·       We will continue to cash donations in homeroom classes or online donations through the website: https://schools.terryfox.ca/72505 until the end of the week.

·       Friday, October 4th | RTA Terry Fox Run Day :

·       The Grade 9 Recreational Leadership team has planned the Terry Fox Run this year.

·       Grade 9 Student Volunteers will hand out tattoos as students enter the door in the morning (first come, first serve).

·       Grade 9 volunteers hand out “Who I am running for” stickers

·       Whole school competition: To count each lap, students will each get a popsicle and get a sharpie mark on their popsicle stick for every lap they complete.

    • Each class will have a plastic bag for their popsicle sticks, and The Grade 9 students will count the marks to determine which class has the most.
    • A huge thanks to Ms. Quinn and Mr. Baranec for their leadership!
