Good afternoon, RTA Ravens,

I would like to wish all of our RTA families a wonderful and relaxing weekend, our last full weekend of the school year! To all the dads, grandpas, and stepdads, I wish you a very Happy Father's Day and a well-deserved day of appreciation. I hope that the weekend brings with it a chance for everyone to recharge before the excitement of the final week of school!

RTA Sports Day:

  • A special thank you to our incredible Parent Council for generously providing popsicles for all students during Sports Day on Wednesday. The cool treat was a huge hit and much appreciated by students on a fun-filled day outdoors.
  • We would also like to extend a huge thank you to our amazing Grade 9 leaders and Physical Education team for their hard work in planning and organizing such a successful event. From athletic challenges and team-building activities to plenty of laughter and school spirit, each period was filled with opportunities for students to connect, be active, and celebrate together.
  • Thank you to everyone who contributed to making Sports Day such a memorable experience for our students!

School Supplies for 2026-2027:

As families begin preparing for the upcoming school year, we would like to provide some information regarding school supplies.

Grades 5 & 6

For students in Grades 5 and 6, families are charged a school supply fee. The school purchases and provides all essential learning supplies required throughout the year. The only items students are asked to bring are:

  • A reusable water bottle
  • A pair of non-marking indoor running shoes

This helps ensure that all students have access to the materials they need while simplifying back-to-school shopping for families.

Grades 7-9

  • A generic school supply list for Grades 7-9 is available on our school website, Back to School - R. T. Alderman School. While we encourage students to arrive on the first day with some basic supplies, such as paper and pencils, the posted list is intended to provide families with recommended supplies that should last for the entire school year.
  • Please note that individual teachers may have specific preferences or requests for organization systems and classroom materials once classes begin in September. Families are encouraged to wait until the start of the school year before purchasing any additional specialized items.

Celebrating Goodbyes and New Horizons:

As we approach the end of another school year, this time of year is always a little bittersweet. We celebrate the accomplishments, growth, and memories made throughout the year, while also saying goodbye to some valued members of our school community and welcoming new faces to RTA.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the following staff members as they begin new chapters in their professional and personal journeys:

  • Leisha MacPherson, who is officially retiring. While we are sad to see Ms. MacPherson leave her full-time role, we are excited as she has promised to continue supporting students as a guest teacher at RTA!
  • Jessica Shaw, who will be joining Lakeshore School.
  • Sarah Jenkins, who will be joining Maple Ridge School for the next school year.
  • Isobel McIntosh, who will be dedicating time to completing her psychology practicum.
  • Grace Fanning and Karisma Gajudhur, who have both completed their temporary contracts at RTA.
  • Leanne Moore, who is also retiring, as she needs the extra time to babysit her upcoming grandbaby twins.

We thank each of these educators for their dedication, care, and contributions to our students and school community. They will be greatly missed.

We are also excited to welcome several talented educators who will be joining our team for the upcoming school year:

  • Lucy Chen, joining us from Andrew Sibbald School.
  • Tyler Schroeder, joining us from Edgemont School.
  • Herta Siarkiewicz, joining us from McKenzie Towne School.

We look forward to the experience, enthusiasm, and expertise they will bring to our school community.

Looking Ahead to September:

  • As we prepare for the 2026-27 school year, please note that staffing is not yet finalized, and we will continue with some hiring throughout the summer and into August.
  • Students and families will receive an email in August, the before school begins, informing them of their homeroom teacher for the upcoming school year.
  • As class placements involve careful consideration of student learning needs, classroom dynamics, and staffing, we will not be accepting requests regarding friend placements.
  • Thank you for your understanding and support as we work to create balanced learning environments where all students can thrive.
